Throughout his 30+ year musical career, Dan McCoy has let his many influences shine & blend with one another. On his 14th release, Yellow Creek, the Willoughby, Ohio native takes a sharp focus on the rootsier music that’s informed his brand of “heartland rock.” With a heavy dose of mandolin & banjo, McCoy insists it’s not a country record per se. “This album is a rock & roll guy embracing the country influence that I’ve been exposed to most of my life. I have roots in Ireland & West Virginia so it kind or runs in the blood.” Nostalgia & the appreciation of relationships and time are central themes throughout these 13 songs. Also found within the 37-minute (mostly) acoustic journey are a couple nods towards the effects of addiction. A tip of the hat to 1 influential song & 3 largely influential artists (covers by John Sebastian, John Hiatt, Drive-By Truckers & Uncle Tupelo respectively) have been thrown into the mix as well. “I was going for a “folks relaxing around a campfire” vibe though not a Kumbaya deal,” McCoy says with a laugh. “A certain, raw, organic, seemingly off the cuff feel.” Yellow Creek marks the second full length album recorded, mixed & produced by Dan at his home in northeast Ohio. While fully admitting he’s not an ace at any instrument, he did play & sing everything heard on this collection. “I’ve always wanted to make a fun “summer” record & felt the time was right to get these songs out into the ether.” Yellow Creek will be available to stream on all major platforms on June 28, 2024.

For fans of Americana, John Hiatt, Old Crow Medicine Show, Levon Helm/The Band, Uncle Tupelo, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell & Grateful Dead type harmonies.
